The original stars of Side By Side By Sondheim will reunite for a charity benefit concert of the revue on May 21st at the Novello Theatre in London.

The performance will benefit the Shooting Star Children's Hospice, which supports terminally ill children and their families.

David Kernan, Millicent Martin, Julia McKenzie and Ned Sherrin starred in the original London and Broadway productions of the revue, the first of many Sondheim-themed evenings to follow. Side By Side By Sondheim premiered at London's Mermaid Theatre in 1976--the same year that the legendary composer/lyricist's Pacific Overtures opened on Broadway. Side by Side transferred to Broadway the next year, and received five Tony Award nominations.

Directed by Kernan, with musical staging by Bill Deamer and musical direction by Gareth Valentine, the revue will also feature guest appearances. The performers will sing numbers from A Funny Thing Happened On the Way to the Forum (1962), Company (1970), Follies (1971) and more. Since the revue premiered, Sondheim has gone on to pen the scores of Sweeney Todd, Merrily We Roll Along, Sunday in the Park with George, Into the Woods, Assassins, Passion and Bounce.
