Sally Mayes at the Duplex February 7th

Sally Mayes returns to the New York Cabaret Stage at the Duplex February 7th to celebrate the release of her new album Valentine. Appearing with her will be a trio led by music director / pianist Jeff Klitz with Warren Odze on drums, and Bob Renino on bass. Her appearance is part of the club’s Broadway Downtown Series which brings Broadway’s brightest lights to the heart of Greenwich Village.

Valentine is Sally’s fifth solo recording. She has long wanted to do an album that would be, in her own words, “my Valentine to the American songbook, and to all the singers who have inspired me over the years." Working with musical director Jeff Klitz the two created an intimate jazz recording that explores the possibilities and pitfalls of romance as viewed by composers Duke Ellington, Stanley Turentine, Cy Coleman and others. The official release date for Valentine, which is being produced and released by Bayview Records, is February 14th.

Sally hit Broadway with a bang in Cy Coleman and A. E. Hotchner’s Welcome to the Club garnering a Theatre World award and an Outer Critic’s Circle Award Nomination. From there she went on to earn Tony, Drama Desk, and Outer Critic’s Circle Award nominations for her role in the revival of Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick’s She Loves Me. Her most recent Broadway appearance was in Urban Cowboy once again earned her a Drama Desk Award Nomination. Among her Off Broadway appearances are Closer Than Ever, Pete N Keely, and Das Barbeque. She starred in the National Touring Company of Dirty Blonde. Of her Frequent Cabaret and concert appearances Bruce Weber of the New York Times has said “Her vocal power and delicacy can take your breath away…and she acts her songs with equal panache.”
