Slain In the Spirit, a two-act play by Lisa Milinazzo will have its world premiere in New York at the Midtown InterNational Theatre Festival. The show will run today, July 16 - August 3 at WorkShop Theater Mainstage.

An expressionistic tragicomedy told with Milinazzo's sharp wit, lyrical theatricality and acute sense of the absurd, Slain In the Spirit is a dark comic romp featuring a young mother trapped between religious fundamentalism and the wild dream life of her post partum psychosis. Slain In The Spirit is directed by Lisa Milinazzo and features a multicultural ensemble cast of 10 actors. The play is produced by Catriona Rubenis-Stevens and Littlewood Group.

Lisa Milinazzo has been directing theatre in New York and L.A. for over 25 years. She directed Alec Baldwin, Michael Emerson and Richard Easton in 3D HAMLET (a theatrical/cinematic hybrid) for Edinburgh Fringe festival and Irish Arts Center, NYC. She has directed NYC theatrical premieres of Eve Ensler, Alexandra Gersten and George F. Walker, among other notables and was nominated for two L.A. Weekly Awards for her production of FOUND A PEANUT. Her short film The Query, premiered at Cannes. This is the second play that she has written and directed. The first, an adaptation of Chekhov's, THE BLACK MONK.

Inspired by the gruesome story of Andrea Yates, Slain in the Spirit examines preventable violence in our society and the deadly combination of religious fundamentalism and psychosis. Here the main character Molly travels a stormy odyssey desperate to uphold religious perfection, attempting to please husband and church. Her world is filled with a posse of angels, a charmingly dictatorial husband and a stream of eccentric visitors who converge upon their trailer park bus.
