The Brooklyn Museum's Target First Saturday attracts thousands of visitors to free programs of art and entertainment each month. The December 4 event celebrates women's stories from around the world and features a special performance by rock star Carole Pope--the counter-culture performer who has been recognized with three Juno Awards (the Canadian Grammy), multiple independent music awards, and a Genie Award (the Canadian Oscar).

8-10 p.m.

5-7 p.m. Music
Rock star Carole Pope sings alternative New Wave rock.

5:30 p.m. Film
Frida (Julie Taymor, 2002, 123 min., R). Biography of the Mexican painter Frida Kahlo. Free tickets available at the Visitor Center at 6 p.m.

6 p.m. Performance
Performance artist and comedian Shelly Mars presents her solo multimedia work Homo Bobobo.

6:30-8:30 p.m. Hands-On Art
Create a found-object sculpture inspired by the Pop art of Joyce Wieland. Free timed tickets available at the Visitor Center at 5:30 p.m.

7 p.m. Gallery Talk
Curator of Contemporary Art Eugenie Tsai on the work of Fred Tomaselli. Free tickets available at the Visitor Center at 6 p.m.

8 p.m. Young Voices Talk
Student Guides on Seductive Subversions: Women Pop Artists, 1958-1968.

8-10 p.m. Dance Party
DJ Laylo hosts a party highlighting the divas of hip-hop and soul.

9 p.m. Book Club
Brooklyn-based graphic novelist Misako Rocks discusses her most recent book, Detective Jermain.

9-10:30 p.m. Performance
Brooklyn-based video-performance collaborative CHERYL.

Throughout the evening, a cash bar will offer beer and wine, and the Museum Café will serve a wide variety of sandwiches, salads, and beverages. The Museum Shop will remain open until 11 p.m.

Some Target First Saturday programs have limited space available and are ticketed on a first-come, first-served basis. Programs are subject to change without notice. Museum admission is free after 5 p.m. Museum galleries are open until 11 p.m. Parking is a flat rate of $4 from 5 to 11 p.m.
