RLT Extends PINOCCHIO Through 5/4; Will Present MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING in 2015

Today, RLT announced two additional performances of Pinocchio have been added to meet popular demand. Each performance the opening weekend sold out. CVNC's Alan Hall said that the production, "...was an unqualified hit with the theatergoers." Pinocchio now runs through May 4th.

Also, the Theatre announced the first production to be directed by Patrick Torres, RLT's new artistic director. His directorial debut will be Much Ado About Nothing, opening on February 13, 2015. Torres on why he selected this play:

"Much Ado about Nothing is my favorite comedy by Shakespeare. Any time you say the words "favorite" and "Shakespeare" in the same sentence, people want to know how you can pick favorites out of such an amazing catalogue of work. For me, Much Ado contains what I love most about theatre - wonderful language and engaging relationships. Language is so powerful. I love how playwrights, poets, and songwriters are able to choose words to create rhythm and meaning. Choosing the right word or phrase can make all the difference in true audience engagement. In Much Ado, Shakespeare's use of language is incredible. It defines the characters and their relationships with precision, and it is the definition of those relationships that has captured audiences throughout time! The banter between Beatrice and Benedick that guides them through their journey of finding love is the best ever written in the history of romantic comedies. But Shakespeare doesn't just make us laugh in this play - he takes us to some dark places as well in order to teach us a little more about the nature of true love and the way we treat one another.

I can't imagine a better way to kick off my tenure as Artistic Director than with this play. First, it will be the first time in RLT history this play has been produced, and I am happy to add it on our stages. And, my first professional job out of graduate school was with the Shakespeare Theatre Company in Washington, DC. I spent that year falling in love with Shakespeare's text and his examination of humanity. As I start this new chapter in my career, it is fitting for me to start back at the beginning of my journey by producing this wonderful play. Finally, in a season about love, this play is will take its spot right next to every other show to give us a fresh perspective on the most complex human emotion. My hope is that by seeing all of the plays, we will all dare to fall in love again."

Pinocchio runs from April 18-May 4. The Thursday and Friday showings are at 7:30 PM while Saturday and Sunday each have a 1 PM matinee and a 5 PM performance, except for the closing weekend, when there are only 1 PM matinees on Saturday and Sunday. There are two performances for schools on Thursday, May 1st at 10 AM and 1 PM. Tickets for Adults & Teens are $15 and tickets for Children (age 12 and under) are $10.

Tickets for Much Ado About Nothing are available now as part of memberships for the 2014-15 season. Single tickets for the upcoming season will go on sale on July 1st.
