In a Heartbeat Productions is excited to present a new play that seeks to challenge conventional labeling.

Mark in Venice, a new play by international produced playwright, Mark Erson, tells the stories of three men from three different centuries each one wrestling with telling the truth. The stories converge and converse in the alleys, courtyards, and on the canals of Venice, or, in the case of those in the first century, what will be Venice. Heart, mind, and spirit are engaged, and a little help from an angel proves essential in each case. Although for Mark of the 21st century, it's an Angelo.

"It's rare for a coming-out story to be set in conversation with a faith story where faith is not condemning, but informing, not directing, but inspiring, helping it along even," says Erson. "The challenge is that it could be seen as too religious for gay theatre and too gay for religious theatre. But in the end we are whole people, and our stories are better told when the fullness of self and life are employed and informed."

This premiere production will be presented for only three nights - December 5, 6, 7 at TheaterLab, at 357 W. 36th Street. Curtain is at 7:30 PM. Tickets can be purchased at theaterlabnyc.com. Seating is very limited.
