New York Shakespeare Exchange (NYSX), the company that popularizes Shakespeare for diverse, contemporary audiences in new and timely ways, stages its next "ShakesBEER" pub crawls in September. Featured in the cast will be Broadway's Hannah Elless (recently of "Bright Star"). This new round of the community-building, immersive pub crawls takes place on consecutive Saturdays September 10 & 17, from 3pm to 6pm. Tickets are $48 (includes four drinks, beer/wine/select cocktails). For tickets visit www.shakespeareexchange.org

Launching at The Gaf, 401 West 48th Street (at 9th Avenue), the "ShakesBEER" crawl will hit four bars in the course of an afternoon (the others are The Waylon, Perdition, and Lansdowne). At each of these establishments a different classic scene is performed by the NYSX ensemble.

The September "ShakesBEER" brings to new life classic scenes from "Romeo & Juliet," "As You Like It," "The Merry Wives of Windsor," and, as a special bonus scene, a corker from Martin McDonagh's dark comedy "The Cripple of Inishmaan" ("ShakesBEER" will be a special event of Origin's 1st Irish Festival. www.1stirish.org)

NYSX's last edition of its pub crawl took place in June and was redubbed ShakesQUEER in honor of Gay Pride. Proceeds from that show benefited the immigration rights organization Immigration Equality to support their valuable legal aid services for LGBTQ immigrants. NYSX has been staging its pub crawls in the city since 2013. www.shakespeareexchange.org

NYSX is responsible for last season's attention-getting "Hamlet10" in which an ensemble of 10 actors representing a spectrum of ages, ethnicities and gender orientations all played the role of the Danish prince.

NY Shakespeare Exchange has generated attention for innovative programs like The Sonnet Project, in which short films based on all 154 Shakespeare sonnets are being shot in every nook and cranny of New York City by diverse filmmakers. (The collection now numbers 110.) The launch of an international initiative will be announced soon. www.sonnetprojectnyc.com
