Possum Point Players brings the brilliant murder mystery "LAURA" to their Possum Hall stage beginning Friday, January 31, 2014. The story of LAURA is best known from the 1944 American film noir version directed by Otto Preminger. It stared Gene Tierney, Dana Andrews, Clifton Webb, Vincent Price and Judith Anderson. The screenplay by Jay Dratler, Samuel Hoffenstein, and Elizabeth Reinhardt was based on the 1943 novel of the same title by Vera Caspary. Joseph LaShelle won the Academy Award for Best Black and White Cinematography for this film.

The American Film Institute ranked the film version of LAURA #73 on AFI's 100 Years...100 Thrills and it was ranked the fourth best film in the mystery genre in AFI's 10 Top 10. Thomas M. Pryor of The New York Times raved: "a top-drawer mystery." Roger Ebert of the Chicago Sun-Times wrote: "Film noir is known for its convoluted plots and arbitrary twists... That LAURA continues to weave a spell - and it does - is a tribute to style over sanity ... " Rotten Tomatoes reports that LAURA is "a psychologically complex portrait of obsession, LAURA is also a deliciously well-crafted murder mystery."

John Marino of Lewes directs the stage version of LAURA with an ensemble cast, which includes Matt King of Lewes as Mark McPherson; Stephanie Allman of Lewes as Bessie Clary; Danny Keenan of Georgetown as Danny; Jim Killion of Lewes as Waldo Lydecker; Don Megee of Georgetown as Shelby Carpenter; Chris Polo of Dover as Mrs. Dorgan; and Chuck Rafferty of Laurel as Olsen.

Show dates are 7:30 PM Fridays, January 31 and February 7, and Saturdays, February 1 and 8, and 2 PM Sundays, February 2 and 9, at Possum Hall, 441 Old Laurel Rd, Georgetown, DE 19947. Tickets are $18 for adults, $17 for students and seniors. Call (302) 856-4560 or visit http://www.possumpointplayers.org.
