Popular TV Series GREAT QUEEN SEON-DEOK Set for Stage Adaptation in Seoul

The highlly popular Korean TV mini-series 'Great Queen Seon Deok' ("Queen Seon-deok") will be adapted into a stage version next year, and have its premiere in Seoul.

The musical will star Lee So-jung and Kang Tae-eul. World-renowned designer Lie Sang-bong will design the costumes. The musical will feature 28 songs, including four from the drama's soundtrack.

Lee will play the role of Queen Seondeok, and can also be heard on the TV series' soundtrack. Lee appeared on Broadway as Lea in 'Miss Saigon' in the late '90's. Other productions include 'Dracula', 'Sword of Fire', 'Aladdin', amongst many others. Lee can also be heard as 'Mulan' in Korean-dubbed Disney animation.

'Great Queen Seok Doek' will be staged from Jan. 5 to 31 at Woori Art Hall in Olympic Park, in southern Seoul.

'Queen Seon-deok' is a TV mini-series written by Kim Young-hyum. Born as one of the twin princesses of the Silla Kingdom (668-935), Queen Seondeok was its first female ruler. The story details her upbringing as a princess and later her role as the ruler of Silla, leaving behind many brilliant achievements.
