Theatre Communications Group (TCG) is pleased to announce that playwright David Henry Hwang will appear at the Drama Book Shop at 5:30pm this Thursday, December 8, for a free event to celebrate TCG Book's publication of his OBIE Award-winning play Yellow Face. Hwang will read from the play with actors Francis Jue and Kathryn Layng, who appeared in the play's production at The Public Theater, and will discuss the work with Edward Albee. A book signing will follow.

This event is open to the public, with seating available on a first-come basis. The Drama Book Shop is located in New York at 250 W 40th St. For more information, call 212-944-0595 or visit www.dramabookshop.com. The paperback book edition, which includes an introduction by New York Times columnist Frank Rich, is available in stores for $13.95.

"David Henry Hwang's lively and provocative cultural self-portrait...Lets nobody off the hook." -Ben Brantley, New York Times

In his mock-documentary play, Hwang puts himself center stage, as it explores both Asian identity and race in America. The play begins with the 1990s controversy over color-blind casting for Miss Saigon, and then spins into comic fantasy, in which the character DHH pens a play in protest, and unwittingly casts a white actor as the Asian lead.

Yellow Face also explores the real-life investigation of Hwang's father, the first Asian American to own a federally chartered bank, and the espionage charges against physicist Wen Ho Lee.
In describing the cunningly organizing, multi-faceted work, Hwang says, "It's about our country, about public image, about face."

"Charming, touching and funny...Yellow Face has an Ibsenite reach and stature."
-Michael Feingold, Village Voice

David Henry Hwang is the author of the Tony Award-winning M. Butterfly and Golden Child, FOB, Family Devotions and the books for the musicals Aida (co-author), Flower Drum Song (2002 revival) and Tarzan, among other works. Yellow Face received the 2008 OBIE Award for playwriting and was a finalist for the 2008 Pulitzer Prize.
