At one time, it was the longest running show in Broadway history. It has a name that everyone instantly recognizes. And it is a show that the whole family can enjoy. Coming this summer to Frederick is Andrew Lloyd Webber's Cats. Continuing Way Off Broadway Dinner Theatre's 15th Anniversary Season, Cats will open Friday evening, June 19th following WOB's regional theatre premiere production of the musical comedy The Wedding Singer.

Based on the universally popular poetry of T.S. Eliot, Cats tells the story, through song and dance, of the annual gathering of Jellicle cats at which time one special cat is selected to ascend to the Heaviside layer. A true musical theatre phenomenon, Cats appeared on Broadway for eighteen years at the Winter Garden Theatre, playing for 7,485 performances before finally closing in the fall of 2000. Countless performers have dawned cats costumes over the years, most notably being Betty Buckley and Elaine Paige. Both creating the role of Grizabella in their respective production; Buckley on Broadway and Paige in London's West End.

Dawning the feline fur for Way Off Broadway's summer production are Alexandra Bailey, Chelsea Bondarenko, Angelo Cerniglia, A.J. Dorsey, Tara Forseth, Lance E. Hayes, Dan Henderson, Jonny Kigin, Brittany Leslie, Jordan Stocksdale, Andrew James, Metzgar, Karen O'Connell, Kellie Schweon, Brandon Stonestreet, Andrew Trego, Shannon Wells, and Taylor Whidden.

Way Off Broadway's production of Cats runs June 19 - August 29, 2009 with performances every Friday and Saturday evening; matinees on the 1st, 3rd, and 5th Sundays of each month; and Sunday evening performances on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of each month. Tickets are $43 for Friday evenings, $45 for Saturday evenings, and $41 for Sunday performances. There will also be three Sunday Twilight Show Only Performances of Cats on June 28th, July 28th, and August 23rd.

Cats has music by Andrew Lloyd Webber with lyrics by T.S. Eliot. Way Off Broadway's Executive Producer and CEO, Bill Kiska, will direct, with choreography by Amanda Parker Kim, musical supervision by Eric Seebach, and musical direction by Jordan Stocksdale. This will mark Stocksdale's musical directing debut at WOB after having recently assumed the role of Artistic Coordinator for the theatre.
