Just yesterday, special Tony honoree Tommy Tune, who is referenced in It's Only A Play and who won his first Tony® in the Featured Actor category, celebrated Micah Stock's first Tony nomination by surprising him ON STAGE at the curtain call of Wednesday's matinee. In It's Only a Play, it's opening night of Peter Austin's (Matthew Broderick) new play as he anxiously awaits to see if his show is a hit. With his career on the line, he shares his big First Night with his best friend, a television star (Nathan Lane), his fledgling producer (Katie Finneran), his erratic leading lady (Stockard Channing), his wunderkind director (T.R. Knight), an infamous drama critic (F. Murray Abraham), and a fresh-off-the-bus coat check attendant (Micah Stock) on his first night in Manhattan. It's alternately raucous, ridiculous and tender - and proves that sometimes the biggest laughs happen offstage.
It's Only A Play, by 4-time Tony® Award winner Terrence McNally, began performances on Thursday, August 28, 2014 at Broadway's Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre (236 West 45th Street), and had it's opening night Thursday, October 9, 2014. It's Only a Play recently extended at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre through Sunday, January 18, 2015, and transferred to its sibling Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre (242 West 45th Street) starting Friday, January 23, 2015 and currently scheduled through Sunday, June 7, 2015. For more information, visit www.ItsOnlyAPlay.com.
This marks Micah's Broadway debut. Off-Broadway: World Premiere of Terrence McNally's And Away We Go (The Pearl).
