Noel Coward's critically acclaimed play Private Lives is getting its pre-Broadway run here in Toronto at the Royal Alexandra Theatre, with Kim Cattrall and Paul Gross playing the lead roles. Cattrall had been previously announced after playing the role to great acclaim in the UK last year. Cattrall made a special appearance at The Royal Alexandra Theatre this Tuesday, May 31st with David Mirvish to announce Paul Gross as her co-star for the Canadian and Broadway engagements, and BWW was on hand to bring you pictures of the two leads. The show will play a limited run from September 17th to October 30th 2011 before it heads off to The Great White Way.

Private Lives had its Canadian Premiere at The Royal Alexandra Theatre in 1931, and since then has played that location eight times, with such stars as Tallulah Bankhead and Maggie Smith in the lead role. David Mirvish stated that it was only appropriate that this storied venue be home to this new production. When speaking of this particular adaptation, he said "I'm delighted that Paul Elliot and Duncan Weldon have worked their magic and made this possible, and I'm excited that we will get to see Kim Cattrall back on a Toronto stage, especially now that she has found an equally stellar Canadian co-star for this production."

Kim Cattrall and Paul Gross also addressed the media and took time to pose for pictures. The two displayed great chemistry, laughing and joking as they answered questions from Toronto's press. When asked to describe the show Gross stated that it was about "war and sex." Cattrall bantered back that it was about "romance and lost love." She then summed up the classic difference between men and women when she joked: "I say it's about romance, he says it's about war and sex."

Whether it's about romance, love, sex or war, one thing appears certain - Private Lives is shaping up to be one of the must-see plays of the year. Tickets are now on sale through the Mirvish Subscription Series, with individual and group tickets going on sale in July. Additional casting will be announced at a later date.
