Seventeen women from Monroe, Louisiana (a town mentioned in the Broadway play STEEL MAGNOLIAS) flew into NYC to see their favorite Southern actress, Delta Burke in the hit Broadway comedy, STEEL MAGNOLIAS on Tuesday, May 24 and BroadwayWorld was there.

The real life 'Steel Magnolias' met Delta after the performance and presented her with a gigantic gift basket full Louisiana goodies, including Muscatine Jelly (make in Natchitoches, LA - the actual town that inspired the story), and lots of other treats to remind Delta of her own second home in New Orleans: pralines, chicory coffee, rice & beans and plenty of baked goods.

STEEL MAGNOLIAS opened on Broadway on April 4 starring Delta Burke as Truvy, Christine Ebersole as M'Lynn, Rebecca Gayheart as Shelby, Marsha Mason as Ouiser, Lily Rabe as Annelle and Frances Sternhagen as Clairee.

Written by Robert Harling and Directed by Jason Moore, STEEL MAGNOLIAS follows the lives of six indomitable Southern women as they share their personal triumphs, tragedies, beauty tips, recipes, and more than the occasional piece of scandalous gossip in Truvy's beauty shop in Chinquapin, Louisiana.
