On May 6 and 7, Newnan Theatre Company is proud to host princes, princesses, and Fairy Godmothers as the Newnan Theatre Company's Academy of Theatre Arts presents Disney's Cinderella. The show has all the music you remember from the classic Disney animated feature and is performed by the students of the Academy.

Mary Caroline Moore, managing director of Newnan Theatre Company, was instrumental in starting the Academy of Theatre Arts at Newnan Theatre Company. "It is such a wonderful thing," she says, "watching these children come in, some not sure of their talents and abilities, and then seeing them find their confidence. We have had our students go on to be in our other presentations such as Cat on a Hot Tin Roof and Flies at the Well."

Susan Babcock, choreographer for the Academy, agrees with Moore. "One of the most common fears in all people is having to be in front of a group of people, performing in some fashion. Now these amazing kids have beaten that fear and have come to know their own skills -- in dance, in acting, and in singing. I love being a part of their conquering that fear."

The story of Cinderella is well known, but, thanks to the Walt Disney Corporation making scripts like this available for children to perform, a whole new generation of children is finding the Disney classics. Songs such as "Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo" and "A Dream is A Wish Your Heart Makes" always trigger warm memories of Disney, and Disney's Cinderella has those songs and more.

Sarah Van Amberg plays the forlorn maid in the home of Madame Trelaine (Maddie Davis), who wishes for a better life. Her fairy godmother, played by Leah Dalrymple, comes to Cinderella's aid, and with a magical wave of her wand, turns Cinderella into the princess she always wanted to be. Cinderella's mean stepsisters, Drusilla (Charlise Norris) and Anastasia (Braedyn Helms), are not happy that Cinderella has become a rival the affections of Prince Charming (Alexander Rice).

Disney's Cinderella opens on May 6 with one show at 7.30 PM, and continues with two shows on Saturday, May 7th at 2 PM and 7.30 PM. Tickets are available at the box office of Newnan Theatre Company or through the Newnan Theatre Company website at www.newnantheatre.org . All tickets are $5.
