Newman to Host AMP's 2/12 Leonard Bernstein Concert

The American Musicals Project (AMP) Concert Series will present "The Brilliance of Leonard Bernstein," an evening of live music and special video clips of Bernstein, presented on February 12th at 7:00 PM at the New-York Historical Society, 170 Central Park West (at 77th Street).

Host Phyllis Newman (On the Town, The Madwoman of Central Park West) will introduce both the musical numbers and vintage video clips of Bernstein's television interviews and appearances. A cast of Broadway actors, including Michael Halling, Natasha Harper, Nancy Johnston and Robert Stoeckle, will perform songs from On the Town, Peter Pan, Wonderful Town, Candide, West Side Story, and 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. Jenn Thompson will direct the production.

"Every year The American Musicals Project (AMP) Concert Series celebrates great celebrates great composing artists of the musical theater with a series of live concerts at the New-York Historical Society, hosted by theater luminaries and sung by Broadway performers. The Brilliance of Bernstein is the second in this year's series. The American Musicals Project is a creative educational curriculum that promotes the study of history and English through musical theater to seventh and eighth grade public school students," press notes state.
