The New Victory Theater announces New Victory LabWorks Project, established to foster the development of innovative work for young audiences and to advocate for the importance of quality performing arts for young people. Created to embrace artists, educators, producers, presenters and others in the field, New Victory LabWorks Project has three areas of focus:

NEW WORK DEVELOPMENT-providing local artists with resources, including rehearsal space, mentorship and feedback

PROFESSIONAL AND ART FORM DEVELOPMENT-promoting and offering opportunities for exchange amongst national and International Artists and practitioners

ADVOCACY-encouraging dialogue within a local, national and global network of industry professionals

The New Victory is thrilled to pilot its first new work development residency with Trusty Sidekick Theater Company. Trusty Sidekick spent the summer and fall experimenting with staging concepts for The Boy at The Edge of Everything by Australian playwright Finegan Kruckemeyer. Following two three-week development sessions in the New 42nd Street Studios, The New Victory will present a reading of the work to an invited audience on January 15th, followed by a post-show feedback session with New Victory Member families. In June, the company will reconvene for one more session of creative exploration and rehearsal of the play.

The Boy at The Edge of Everything, commissioned by Trusty Sidekick, had earlier workshops in the Kennedy Center's New Visions/New Voices Program (May 2012) and Cleveland PlayhouseSquare's Launch Residency Program (June 2012).

The New Victory LabWorks Project is supported, in part, by a grant from New York State Council on the Arts.
