Due to popular demand, Nashville Repertory Theatre has extended its production of the multiple Tony Award-winning musical Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by Hugh Wheeler. Performances have been added through Saturday, November 1. Sweeney Todd runs October 4 - November 1 at TPAC's Johnson Theater (with preview performances October 2 - 3). The Rep's 2008 production of Sweeney Todd had a completely sold out run.

"Due to the overwhelming excitement from the Nashville community over this multiple Tony Award-winning musical, we've had to add performances for Sweeney Todd," says Nashville Rep Producing Artistic Director René D. Copeland. "I could not be more thrilled! Aside from being able to share our version of this Sondheim masterpiece, I am elated to be a part of a community that embraces live, professional theatre and am so grateful for Nashville's continued support of Nashville Repertory Theatre."

The rare instance of a musical thriller, this chilling, suspenseful, heart-pounding masterpiece of murderous "barber-ism" and culinary crime tells the infamous tale of the unjustly exiled Benjamin Barker (aka Sweeney Todd). He returns to 19th century London seeking revenge against the lecherous judge who framed him and ravaged his young wife. The enterprising (and unforgettable) pie-maker Mrs. Lovett helps Sweeney Todd exact his revenge in the most "delicious" of ways. Sophisticated, macabre, visceral and uncompromising, Sweeney Todd mixes intense drama with howlingly funny moments of dark humor.
