NYU Steinhardt's Program in Vocal Performance will present The Pirates of Penzance from March 30-April 2, 2017. The immortal comic opera features libretto by W. S. Gilbert and music by Arthur Sullivan. William Wesbrooks directs.

The Pirates of Penzance - which originally opened in England and New York City in 1879 - tells the tale of Frederic, an orphan and apprentice to a band of kindhearted pirates off the coast of England. A love story, a leap-year birthday discovery, and comical misadventure ensue, bringing the audience spirited and beloved songs such as "I Am the Very Model of a Modern Major-General." The production promises a rollicking good time with a timeless classic.

NYU's production of The Pirates of Penzance runs March 30-April 1 at 8 p.m. and April 2 at 3 p.m. at the Frederick Loewe Theatre, 35 West 4th Street. Tickets are $20 general admission and $5 for students and seniors. The Pirates of Penzance features music direction by Michael Ricciardone, scenic design by Sandy Yaklin, lighting design by Jimmy Lawlor, costume design by Karen Kinsley, sound design by Benjamin Furiga, and props by Dircelene Torres. The production stage manager is Julie Hurley. The cast features NYU Steinhardt students Matthew Anderson, Mackenzie Bykowski, AnDrew Cohen, Frank Fei, John Genzale, Katie Glasgow, Stephen Heller, Christian Hopper, Jacklyn Klimczak, Shadrick Lester, Stevie LeWarne, Nicole Mitroussias, Andrew Peterson, Emily Phelan, Taggart Price, Sardee Ramos, Mary Rice, Katie Robinson, Ben Salters, Christopher Sapp, Ted Sarge, Leigh Toltz, Geddy Warner, and Garrett Wilson.
