Despite being the 'BEST TIME EVER', Neil Patrick Harris's variety show on NBC has been cancelled.

Variety reports that Harris and the network have chosen not to renew the live variety show for a second season, but that Harris's Prediction Productions will continue to work on new projects for NBC.

BEST TIME EVER WITH NEIL PATRICK HARRIS debuted in September and ran for 8 episodes, all live, which "made it an expensive undertaking for the network and an exhausting regimen for Harris," Variety writes. Adapted from the UK variety series ANT & DEC'S SATURDAY NIGHT TAKEAWAY, the series featured stunts, taped segments, celebrity guest appearances and more. Nicole Scherzinger was involved as co-host.

Harris and execs at NBC considered re-upping the show with big changes but decided to scrap the series and start afresh instead.

"We are extremely proud of the work Neil and the producers did on BEST TIME EVER," NBC's Paul Telegdy told Variety. "People rewarded us for taking the risk of trying something different. It was an incredibly complicated and sophisticated form of television to put on a live show on a weekly basis. We're proud of Neil for giving it his all and we have steely resolve to work together on something new."

We can't wait to see what NPH comes up with next!

Neil Patrick Harris served as the host for the first and only season of NBC's variety show, BEST TIME EVER WITH NEIL PATRICK HARRIS. The five-time Emmy- and Tony Award-winning performer was recently seen on the big screen starring opposite Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike in David Fincher's critically-acclaimed feature film, GONE GIRL. He has garnered multiple Emmy and Golden Globe award nominations for his role as 'Barney Stinson' on the hit television series, HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER, and he won an Emmy for his guest-starring role on GLEE in 2010.

He recently starred in the title role of HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH on Broadway, earning the 2014 Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical. Harris served as host of the 67th Academy Awards, the 61st and 65th Primetime Emmy Awards, as well as the 63rd, 65th, 66th and 67th Tony Awards, for which he won four Emmys. Most recently, Harris added the title of author to his list of accomplishments with the release of his autobiography from Crown Publishing, NEIL PATRICK HARRIS: CHOOSE YOUR OWN AUTOBIOGRAPHY.
