Artist Morgan James will perform during 2014 Winter Jazzfest on Saturday, Jan. 11 at 7:45 p.m. at Zinc Bar in Greenwich Village. Guests will hear her smoky, soulful renditions of songs from her debut album with Epic Records, "Morgan James Live: A Celebration of Nina Simone." The CD offers a selection of songs that show off James' extraordinary voice and her exquisite gift for merging soul, jazz and R&B in a fresh and thrilling new way.
James' performance at Zinc Bar will also include a sampling of tunes not yet heard from her: a glimpse into her upcoming studio album, which will combine old-school pop and soul with classic blues roots. James will be surrounded by a powerhouse band including pianist Roy Dunlap, bassist Jeff Hanley, drummer Tony Mason, guitarist Doug Wamble, saxophonist Chase Baird, trumpeter Alphonso Horn and trombonist Mike Fahie. Tickets for the Winter Jazzfest Marathon may be purchased in advance at http://www.lepoissonrouge.com/lpr_events/2014-winter-jazzfest-january-11th-2014/. Quickly becoming one of the most sought-after multi-genre vocalists in the country, James recently performed in the Broadway revival of "Godspell" (who could forget her sultry rendition of "Turn Back, O Man"?), captivated audiences as Teena Marie in the Broadway smash hit, "Motown: The Musical," and was the cover girl and feature story in VIE magazine's 2013 Music Issue.
