According to Deadline, Millennium Films' Avi Lerner told Standart he is in talks with Meryl Streep, Cameron Diaz and Milla Jovovich to star in THE EXPENDABELLES upcoming action spin-off.

Read the original report here.

Lerner is also on the hunt for a female director. THE EXPENDABELLES will have a script from Karen McCullah Lutz and Kirsten Smith -- the rom-com writing team for Legally Blonde.

Like the veteran action stars featured in The Expendables, Deadline previously wrote that the new film "will be driven by actresses who've logged time in action films over the years".

Other actresses known for their action chops include Angelina Jolie, Kate Beckinsale, Gina Carano, Uma Thurman, Sigourney Weaver, Geena Davis, and Jennifer Garner. BWW will bring you updates on the cast list as we have them!

Streep, who stars in the just-released film version of August: Osage County, is currently working on Rob Marshall's Into the Woods film adaptation, as well as The Homesman and The Giver. Cameron Diaz is filming for the upcoming Annie remake as 'Miss Hannigan' and also has Sex Tape and The Other Woman in the works. She is currently starring on screen in The Counselor, which debuted this weekend. Jovovich will next be seen in Cymbeline, Resident Evil 6 and Survivor. She has starred in action flicks such as The Three Musketeers, the Resident Evil series and The Fifth Element.
