According to Masterworks Broadway's website, the original Broadway cast recording of City of Angels is being reissued on CD today, May 4. The album is available on Amazon.com, BarnesandNoble.com, and on www.masterworksbroadway.com.

City of Angels was the brainchild of Larry Gelbart (book), Cy Coleman (music) and David Zippel (lyrics). Set in L.A. in the 1940s, its main protagonists were Stine, a screenwriter with writers' block on the eve of delivering an important script, and Stone, Stine's own fictional creation and alter ego, a sassy detective. In the cast were James Naughton and Gregg Edelman as Stine and Stone, with Randy Graff, Dee Hoty and Kay McClelland as their love interests, and Rene Auberjonois as a Hollywood mogul. The show, directed by Michael Blakemore, opened at the Virginia Theatre On December 11, 1989, and went on to win the Tony Awards® for Best Musical, Best Book, and Best Score among others; it closed two years later after playing 878 performances.

Masterworks Broadway is a record label created by the consolidation of Sony Music Entertainment's Broadway theatre music divisions, Columbia Broadway Masterworks and RCA Victor Records' Broadway series. Masterworks Broadway's recent releases include the revival cast recording of South Pacific (2008), Avenue Q (2003), Hairspray (2002) and Chicago (1997).
