Hachette Audio has announced that the audiobook edition of Hamilton: THE REVOLUTION will be read by Mariska Hargitay. Lin-Manuel Miranda, creator of the hit musical, adds more than 200 funny, revealing, personal "footnotes" to the recording, while co-author Jeremy McCarter lends his voice to the introduction.

Lin-Manuel Miranda made the casting decision for the audio edition of his book decisively: "Mariska, in addition to being the #1 fan of the show, represents, to me, much of what Hamilton is about - tough, smart, and New York. She's an essential part of this city; it feels only right for her to narrate the story." He added, during a break from recording his notes in the Hachette Audio NYC recording studio, "and she has a killer voice! I want to hear her telling the story."

The award-winning actress, perhaps best known for her role as Olivia Benson on NBC's long- running Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, has seen Hamilton on stage multiple times. Hargitay enthused about her hand-picked role in this production: "I'm hard pressed to express how thrilled and honored I am to do this. Lin-Manuel's Hamilton enthralls me, and to think that I get to play a part in telling the story of how this masterpiece came into existence, it's really just a lot to take in."

In this audiobook, Miranda, along with Jeremy McCarter, a cultural critic and theater artist who was involved in the project from its earliest stages - "since before this was even a show," according to Miranda - traces its development from an improbable performance at the White House to its landmark opening night on Broadway six years later. The groundbreaking musical is as revolutionary as its subject, the poor kid from the Caribbean who fought the British, defended the Constitution, and helped to found the United States. Fusing hip-hop, pop, R&B, and the best traditions of theater, this once-in-a-generation show broadens the sound of Broadway, reveals the storytelling power of rap, and claims our country's origins for a diverse new generation. The audiobook edition of Hamilton: THE REVOLUTION gives listeners an unprecedented view of both revolutions, from the only two writers able to provide it.

This audiobook is the perfect complement to any fan's collection, alongside the gorgeous keepsake hardcover edition published by Grand Central Publishing (April 12, 2016). The downloadable audiobook edition will feature a PDF of the full libretto, while the CD edition adds to this collection an extensive PDF of images from the print book. The Hamilton audiobook will release simultaneously with the hardcover, in stores and online.
