Marian Seldes has explained her reasons for making no speech upon receiving a 2010 Lifetime Achievement Tony Award, Steven Schalchlin reports on his blog

Schalchlin and his companions encountered Seldes at Sardi's and asked her about her response to the award.  Seldes replied, "They told us, keep it short, keep it short, keep it short, so I decided I would just say nothing."

Marian Seldes made her Broadway debut in MEDEA in 1948.  Since then, she has appeared on Broadway in numerous productions, including A DELICATE BALANCE, for which she won a Tony Award.  She has also been nominated for an additional four Tony Awards (for FATHER'S DAY, DEATHTRAP, RING ROUND THE MOON, and DINNER AT EIGHT).  She appeared in every one of DEATHTRAP's 1,809 performances.  Her most recent Broadway credit is DEUCE.
