The Luise Ross Gallery will present MARZIE NEJAD: CONVERSATION, April 24-May 31, 2014. A reception will be held April 24 from 5-7pm.

Frida Kahlo goes over a waterfall in a canoe, a mysterious city faces the apocalypse, and storefront mannequins break out of captivity. This is just the start in self-taught artist Marzie Nejad's second exhibition at Luise Ross Gallery.

Strongly rooted in surrealism and mysticism, Nejad's paintings are richly evocative with deep, dark narratives that never unfold in a linear path. Is this the beginning of the end? We can see not only the hope of our planet, but the devastation as well. The sheer audacity in Nejad's artistic scope and the fearlessness with which she embraces her subject matter is what gives this work its idiosyncratic lure. The intended message is elusive. The paintings serve as a gateway to Nejad's interior world and the start of Conversation.
