Linda Eder's latest CD will celebrate the legendary voice and passion of one of her musical idols--Judy Garland. By Myself: The Songs of Judy Garland will be released in stores on the Angel label on October 4th.

On the CD, Eder will interpret 11 songs associated with Garland, who was also born in Minnesota. Produced by composer/conductor Ettore Stratta and executive produced by Ian Ralfini, the album will feature the London Symphony Orchestra on most tracks. Frank Filipetti recorded Eder's vocals, and Kim Scharnberg, Byron Olson and Jeremy Roberts were responsible for orchestrations.

"Judy was my first big musical influence. I always felt a connection to her. She was all about the goose bump factor," stated Eder, who hopes to channel "the strength and fragility" of Garland's voice rather than its unmistakable timbre. Among the songs on the CD--"By Myself" (sung by Garland in I Could Go On Singing),"Almost Like Being in Love," "This Can't Be Love," "I'd Like to Hate Myself in the Morning" (performed by Garland on the "Merv Griffin Show"), "It Never Was You," medleys of "Zing! Went the Strings of My Heart/The Trolley Song" and "The Boy Next Door/You Made Me Love You," Gershwin's "Do It Again" and "Rockabye Your Baby with a Dixie Melody." An original song by frequent Eder collaborator Jack Murphy called "The Rainbow's End" was written to evoke Garland in its lyrics and the torch songs of the '40s in its sound. Also, Eder does cap off the CD with "Over the Rainbow," the song most eternally linked to Garland.

Eder's (who has been compared more often to Barbra Streisand than to Garland) last theatrical endeavor was starring in Frank Wildhorn's Camille Claudel at Goodspeed; she played the French sculptress of the title in the show from which her hit "Gold" originated. She made her Broadway debut in Wildhorn's Jekyll & Hyde, and reaped a Theatre World Award as well as Drama Desk and Outer Critic Circle nominations for her performance as the doomed prostitute Lucy. Eder's many recordings include Linda Eder, It's No Secret Anymore, It's Time, Gold and And So Much More.

An animal lover, Eder is also currently developing a new show, "Trail MIX" for Animal Planet. She will both create and host the primetime show, which will feature Eder and other celebrities interacting with and discussing horses. After By Myself's release, Eder will tour around the country and in Europe, with the concerts reflecting the Garland theme of the CD.
