Back by popular demand after a sell-out 2008 run, Les Miserables will attack Maine State Music Theatre June 26th through July 13th.

Based on the 1862 novel by Victor Hugo, Les Miserables tells the musical tale of redemption and revolution in early 19th-century France.

Ex-convict and fugitive, Jean Valjean (known by his prison number, 24601), is pitted against the tenacious Inspector Javert in a lifelong struggle to evade capture. This deeply personal tale, which follows the change in a man from sinner to saint, plays out against a historical backdrop of unparalleled scale as French students fight to free the oppressed lower class. Love for another and for one's country, battle hatred and injustice result in both triumph and tragedy for those who wage the war, but cannot escape his dark past as he tries to save himself and those around him.

The award-winning score composed by Claude-Michel Schonberg, with lyrics by Herbert Kretzmer and a book by Alain Boublil, is as noteworthy and spectacular as the story itself. The score, which has inspired numerous cast recordings and received two Grammy Awards, features such notable songs as "I Dreamed a Dream," "Who Am I?," "Master of the House," "On My Own," "Do You Hear the People Sing?," "One Day More," and the show-stopping, "Bring Him Home."

Edward Reichert will provide musical Direction for Les Miserables. Reichert is a long time MSMT collaborator of 22 seasons and on faculty in the School of Music at USM where he teaches and directs in their musical theater program.

This exciting, passionate musical experience will be directed by MSMT favorite, Marc Robin (who directed MSMT season opener, Dreamgirls and will direct the upcoming, Mary Poppins) and featuring a multi-talented cast of professional performers from New York City and around the country including MSMT favorites Gregg Goodbrod (Sunset Boulevard, Miss Saigon, Full Monty) and MSMT Artistic Consultant, Curt Dale Clark (Legally Blonde, Beauty and the Beast, Drowsy Chaperone), as rivals, Jean Valjean and Javert.

Rounding out the principal cast are Heidi Kettenring as Fantine, Siri Howard as Cosette, Manna Nichols as Eponine, Tyler Hanes as Enjolras, Max Quinlan as Marius and the duo of Gary Troy and Abby Smith as the Thénardiers.

LES MISERABLES, one of the most critically acclaimed and frequently performed musicals of all time, has won numerous major theatre awards and has been performed in theaters around the world. There was an Academy Award Winning film adaptation in 2012 and a revival is slated for Broadway IN 2014.

Audiences will get their chance to see this explosive production live on stage at Maine State Music Theatre from June 26 through July 13 at the Pickard Theater on the campus of Bowdoin College, Brunswick.. Tickets can be purchased by calling the box office at 207-725-8769 or by visiting the MSMT website at www.msmt.org.
