As first reported by Deadline.com, Julianne Moore has just signed to play Margaret White in the MGM remake of Carrie directed by Kimberly Pierce.

Chloe Moretz will play Carrie (originally Sissy Spacek), and Gabriella Wilde will play Sue Snell (originated by Amy Irving). Kevin Misher produces and Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa wrote the script.

The story is based on the Stephen King novel of the same name about a teenage girl dealing with everyday school life in the face of her overbearing, religious mother and burgeoning understanding of her telekinetic powers. The original film was directed by Brian DePalma and was recently translated for the Broadway stage, where it quickly closed, then resurfaced after rewrites for a two-month run at Off-Broadway's MCC Theatre.

Stage and film star, Moore starred on Broadway in The Vertical Hour in 2006 and was featured in The Hours, among many other acclaimed films and television series.
