In author Johnathan Currier's new survival-horror fiction, "The Curse of Hostal la Parata: Part One" (published by AuthorHouse), a blissful mountain resort turns into an evil playground.

The book begins by narrating the story of the author - also the main character - and a visit to his "hostal", or hostel lodge, to grab a drink with his friends. Soon after he arrives, the protagonist finds his friends turning on him in fits of rage and terror.

The only way for the author to escape is to run into the woods, where he finds an abandoned prison within which he seeks shelter. Without anyone to trust and nowhere to run, the author and his surviving friends and family - whom Currier also wrote into the story - must find a safe haven.

As a fan of TV series like "The X-Files" and "Supernatural," Currier says he writes with an unabashed passion for horror and fiction. His goal is to one day be as successful a horror-fiction writer as Stephen King.

"I am looking at the whole scenario from a whole different angle," Currier says. "I play myself in the book. And when you read it, it's almost like reading from a movie script. I think the younger generation will find this quite fascinating. And the detail into gore is like nothing I have ever read before."
