Playwright/actor Joe Gulla's "FAGGY AT 50" will play Joe's Pub at The Public Theater this Sunday, July 30th.

Written and performed by Gulla, "FAGGY AT 50" is the winner of Theatre Row's United Solo Award for Best One-Man Show and Most Popular Show. Directed by Brian Rardin, "FAGGY AT 50" is the second chapter of Gulla's multi-award-winning, "Bronx Queen Trilogy".

Sunday's Joe's Pub premiere comes hot on the heels of Gulla's 2017 Downtown Urban Arts Festival's "Audience Award" win for the Cherry Lane Theatre production of his play "GARBO". Press notes describe "GARBO" as a "two-act autobiographical play... with a European twist. Emphasis on TWIST!"

Says the playwright, "I am honored and thrilled that Joe's Pub invited me to continue my "Bronx Queen Trilogy". As I've said before, I believe Joe's Pub is the perfect place for these shows to be produced. As a young Bronx boy/native New Yorker, I dreamt of being part of the "downtown scene" that Joe's Pub legendarily exemplifies! The fact that I am sharing my stories directly from that iconic stage drives my omnipresent theme ("you MUST take control of your own story!") home in a beautiful way!"

What can you expect from "FAGGY AT 50"? "Ha! Well, it is done in the same Spalding Gray-esque style as "The Bronx Queen". I sip water and tell my story. A lot of the same characters appear: my Nanny, my (proudly!) foul-mouthed Mom and my rough and tumble Dad. I always viewed the "The Bronx Queen" as my "coming out" story. "FAGGY AT 50' is my "coming to terms" story. I mean, I am in my 50's now. Inventory is a must!"

"My through line in "FAGGY AT 50" is my battle with Playboy Magazine. They randomly canceled the Lifetime Subscription my Dad purchased for me when I was 14! Believe me, I get to the bottom of it! Oh, and this show also includes a scene where my Sicilian grandfather shoves me into a metal clothes hamper and throws me across the room! I always say, 'It wasn't physical abuse... it was the 70's!' Ha!"

What's next for Joe? "My new play, "Make Scents, Inc." was just selected to play Memphis, Tennessee produced by Emerald Theatre Company, one of Playbill Magazine's "15 Leading Gay Theatre Companies" in the United States. In October, Brian Rardin and I will bring "The Bronx Queen" to Northern California and return home to begin casting for the New York City premiere of my collection of nationally-produced, award-winning plays, "GAY.PORN.MAFIA"!

"FAGGY AT 50" will be performed at Joe's Pub on Sunday, July 30 at 7:00. Tickets are $20.00 and available at The Public's Box Office (425 Lafayette, NYC). For more information, visit www.JoeGulla.com or goo.gl/jMxZrT.
