Jenni Rivera & More Among Finalists for Billboard Mexican Music Awards

Telemundo announced today, during a special live broadcast of its morning show "Un Nuevo Dia," the list of finalists for the 2013 Billboard Mexican Music Awards, set to air live on Wednesday, October 9 at 7pm/6c from the legendary Dolby Theater in Hollywood, California. The Billboard Mexican Music Awards are the only awards show on a major network that honors the albums, songs and most popular singers of Regional Mexican music. The list of finalists, based on Billboard chart performance, was led by Gerardo Ortiz, the late Jenni Rivera, La Arrolladora Banda el Limon de Rene Camacho, Roberto Tapia, Voz de Mando, Banda El Recodo de Cruz Lizarraga, Calibre 50, 3BallMTY and Joan Sebastian. Finalists for the 2013 Billboard Mexican Music Awards will vie for top honors in 32 categories, including Artist of the Year, Album of the Year, Song of the Year, Artist of the Year-New, Digital Download Artist of the Year, Airplay Artist of the Year, and various categories for Banda, Norteño, Ranchero/Mariachi and Duranguense/Grupero/Cumbia Music.

Topping the list as a 14-time finalist in 13 categories is multi-platinum selling artist Gerardo Ortiz. The young singer/songwriter, who boasts 13 Billboard Mexican Music Awards and four albums reach No. 1 on the Billboard Top Latin Albums Chart, is one of the busiest musical acts with 130 concert dates scheduled in 2013 in the US alone. Gerardo Ortiz is a finalist for Artist of the Year; Artist of the Year, Male; Songs Artist of the Year; Airplay Artist of the Year; Digital Download Artist of the Year; Albums Artist of the Year; Norteño Artist of the Year; Songwriter of the Year and Producer of the Year. His song "Solo Vine a Despedirme" vies for Song of the Year and Norteño Song of the Year; while his album "El Primer Ministro" is up for Album of the Year and Norteño Album of the Year, competing in the latter category with his own album "Sold Out: En Vivo Desde El NOKIA Theatre L.A. Live."

Strong album sales and airplay by the works of the late Jenni Rivera earned the beloved artist 10 finalist mentions in eight categories. Known as the "Diva of Banda," Jenni Rivera was one of the most successful and influential Latina stars in entertainment and her impact continues despite her untimely passing. A top-selling recording artist and live concert headliner, Jenni was also a major media mogul, starring and hosting television shows, a national radio program and spearheading various other business ventures. After winning numerous Billboard Latin Music Awards, Jenni Rivera is posthumously a finalist for Artist of the Year; Artist of the Year, Female; Songs Artist of the Year; Digital Download Artist of the Year; Albums Artist of the Year and Banda Artist of the Year. Her albums "La Misma Gran Señora" and "Joyas Prestadas: Banda" vie for Album of the Year and Banda Album of the Year.

The popular Banda group from Sinaloa, Mexico, La Arrolladora Banda el Limón de Rene Camacho, is competing for seven awards including Artist of the Year; Artist of the Year, Duo or Group; Songs Artist of the Year; Airplay Artist of the Year and Banda Artist of the Year. Their song "Cabecita Dura" from their hit album "Irreversible" is finalist for Song of the Year and Banda Song of the Year. The renowned group celebrates a successful musical career that spans over five decades and 31 albums.

Just off his successful stint as coach on Telemundo's La Voz Kids, Roberto Tapia is up for Artist of the Year, Male; Banda Artist of the Year; Songwriter of the Year and Producer of the Year; while his song "Mirando Al Cielo" vies for Song of the Year and Banda Song of the Year. Other six-time finalists include: Voz de Mando, up for Artist of the Year; Artist of the Year, Duo or Group and Norteño Artist of the Year; their song "Y Ahora Resulta" competes for Song of the Year and Norteño Song of the Year, while their album with the same name vies for Norteño Album of the Year. Banda El Recodo de Cruz Lizarraga are finalists for Artist of the Year, Duo or Group; Songs Artist of the Year; Airplay Artist of the Year and Banda Artist of the Year; while their songs "La Mejor de Todas" and "Sin Respiracion" are up for Banda Song of the Year.

Finalists competing for four awards are Calibre 50, 3BallMTY and Joan Sebastian; those up for three awards include Lucero, Tierra Cali and America Sierra. El Trono de Mexico, Intocable, Los Bukis, Noel Torres, Roberto Junior y Su Bandeño and Vicente Fernandez are finalists for two awards.

Finalists and winners of the Billboard Mexican Music Awards are determined by chart performance as chronicled in Billboard Magazine and on billboard.com during the eligibility period of August 18, 2012 through August 10, 2013. Award categories are based on album and digital track sales data provided by Nielsen SoundScan and radio airplay monitored by Nielsen BDS.
