Working Title is in the midst of assembling an all-star cast to mount its upcoming film EVEREST, according to Deadline.

Jake Gyllenhaal, Josh Brolin, Jason Clarke, and John Hawkes are currently in negotiations to star, with Baltasar Krakauer directing.

The film follows the events of May 1996 on Mount Everest, in which a group of climbers were caught in a deadly snowstorm during summit attempts, which resulted in eight deaths. The year marked Everest's most deadly season.

EVEREST will draw upon Jon Krakauer's nonfiction book INTO THIN AIR, a recount of his survival and the events.

Gyllenhaal recently appeared off-Broadway in If There Is I Haven't Found It Yet and is in talks to join the upcoming film adaptation of Stephen Sondheim's INTO THE WOODS.

His upcoming film projects include Nailed, Mississippi Grind, Prisoners and An Enemy. Other movie credits include End of Watch, Source Code, Love and Other Drugs, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, Brothers, Rendition, Zodiac, Jarhead, Proof, Brokeback Mountain, The Day After Tomorrow, Donnie Darko, October Sky and more.

In 2008, Brolin was nominated for an Academy Award for his portrayal of Dan White in Gus Van Sant's acclaimed film Milk. Recently, he starred in the Coen Brothers' True Grit, which was nominated for 10 Academy Awards including Best Picture; Oliver Stone's Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps; and Woody Allen's You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger. He received rave reviews for his portrayal of George W. Bush in Oliver Stone's biopic, W. Prior to that, Brolin earned a Screen Actors Guild Award as part of an ensemble for his work in Joel and Ethan Coen's No Country for Old Men, which also won four Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director. Additionally, Brolin starred in Ridley Scott's blockbuster American Gangster and was nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award as part of this ensemble.
