Harbor Lights Theater Company to Offer Fosse Master Class, 3/14The Harbor Lights Theater Company, Staten Island's only professional Equity company, dedicated to illuminating the human experience through the highest quality theatrical production and arts education, announces a "Fosse Master Class," to be conducted by veteran Broadway performer and native Staten Islander Mimi Quillin. The class is being held on Friday, March 14 from 7:30 - 9:30 p.m. at the Snug Harbor Cultural Center and Botanical Gardens, Building G, Studio 202.

Ms. Quillin's class offers a unique opportunity to learn the iconic technique of choreographic genius Bob Fosse, including original choreography from "Sweet Charity." The class is open to dancers of all ages; Ms. Quillin, a longtime assistant to Mr. Fosse, will conduct a talk-back following class.

Fee for the class is $35.00 per participant or $15.00 for an observer. Checks can be sent to the Harbor Lights Theater Company, 38 Westervelt Avenue, Staten Island, NY, 10301. For information go to www.hltc.org or call 718-273-7516.

Bob Fosse was an American actor, dancer, choreographer, director, screenwriter, editor, and film director. He won an unprecedented eight Tony Awards for choreography (Damn Yankees, The Pajama Game, Sweet Charity, Cabaret, and Pippin, among others) as well as one for direction (Pippin). He was nominated for the Academy Award four times, winning for his direction of Cabaret (beating Francis Ford Coppola for The Godfather). Fosse won a Tony, an Emmy and an Oscar all in the same year (1973). Fosse's greatest contribution to the arts, however, was the creation of his own style of theater dance; his lasting influence became the driving force behind Fosse, the Broadway revue of Fosse's choreography, which won the Tony for Best Musical in 1999. The current Broadway production of Chicago, originally directed and choreographed by Fosse, is now the longest running revival in Broadway history.

Ms. Quillin's "Fosse Master Class" is the latest in the Harbor Lights Theater Company's series of Broadway Master Classes, the most recent being an acting class for singers led by three time Tony winning director and lyricist Richard Maltby, Jr. Harbor Lights will continue to offer Master Classes in addition to its ongoing education program, "Enter Stage Right," which will present a two-week Theatrical Intensive for Youth ages 11 to 18 this summer.
