NEWSROOM star Jeff Daniels revealed through Twitter yesterday that HBO has renewed the Aaron Sorkin series for a third season.

"It's official. #Newsroom coming back for a Season 3." tweeted the star.

Viewership for Season 2 has averaged nearly 2 million per episode. Back in July, HBO executive Michael Lombardo shared that "the odds are excellent" for a third season of the drama, adding, "We're very happy with the show. Honestly the conversations with Aaron this point are all about schedule. I would be shocked if you weren't hearing an announcement soon... We're enormously happy with Newsroom."

The series returned for a second season this month, featuring new stars Marcia Gay Harden, Grace Gummer and Hamish Linklater. Focusing on a network anchor, played by Jeff Daniels, his new executive producer, Emily Mortimer, the newsroom staff, John Gallagher, Jr, Alison Pill, Thomas Sadoski, Olivia Munn, Dev Patel, and their boss, Sam Waterston, the series tracks their quixotic mission to do the news well in The Face of corporate and commercial obstacles, not to mention their own personal entanglements.
