Rich Orloff's FOREIGN AFFAIRS, a collection of 7 short comedies of global proportions, will premiere at the WorkShop Theater Company's (312 W. 36th St.) Mainstage on January 10, 2005. Previews begin on January 7th.

Set in 7 different countries, FOREIGN AFFAIRS spans from 1989 (and the fall of the Berlin Wall) to the present.  From a kinky tryst in Buenos Aires to a Pope who finds himself accidentally married to a showgirl, FOREIGN AFFAIRS takes an irreverent, international look at sex, religion and politics. The play also includes comedies set in Berlin, Prague, Rio, Bulgaria and Antarctica.

Holli Harms directs an ensemble of 7 (each of whom plays multiple roles) including Richard Kent Green, Gary Mink (a veteran of the Ridiculous Theatrical Company), Laurie Ann Orr, Gerrianne Raphael, Kim Reed, Greg Skura and Baz Snider.

Rich Orloff's one-act plays have been produced throughout the United States and in Canada, Australia, Austria, Brazil, Germany, Holland, India, Russia, Scotland, Singapore and Sweden. In the last decade, four of his short comedies have been published in the annual "Best American Short Plays" series. Winner of a 2003 Dramatists Guild fellowship, Rich's ten full-length plays (mostly
comedies) have won such awards and contests as the Pickering Award for Playwrighting Excellence, the Interplay International Play Festival, the Festival of Emerging American Theatre, Theatre Conspiracy New Play Contest, the Abeles Foundation Playwrights Award, and second place in the Kaufman & Hart Prize for New American Comedy.

Director Holli Harms began directing in Charleston, South Carolina with The Footlight Players and Queen Street Theatre.  Since moving to New York she has directed for Ensemble Studio Theatre, New York Theater Workshop, Below the Belt, and Swim Shorts.  She co-founded the performance group, The Lexington Group, which created three productions that performed both in New York and at the Spoleto Festival, in Charleston, SC.

Timothy R. Mackabee is the set designer. The lighting designer is Andrew Rothschild, and the costumes are by Cheryl A. McCarron.

FOREIGN AFFAIRS is co-produced by the Foolish Theatre Company and the WorkShop Theater Company. The Foolish Theatre Company was founded last January.

The WorkShop Theater Company, celebrating its tenth anniversary, is located at the Theatre Building, 312 West 36th Street (4th floor), just West of 8th Ave., home of the Abingdon and Barrow Group theater companies.

Performances of FOREIGN AFFAIRS are Fridays at 8 PM, Saturdays at 6 & 9 PM, and Sundays at 7 PM, with an Opening Night performance on Monday, January 10 at
7 PM.
