Fashion Photo of the Day 6/26/13 - Maggie Gyllenhaal

Let me start by saying I adore Maggie Gyllenhaal and find her to be beyond likeable. That being said, I do not like this Christian Dior pre-fall dress on her. I know its straight from the runway but that doesn't mean I have to love it. It just goes a little too far for me in the design which is odd for Christian Dior because I find his looks to be chic and classic.

I do love a few details about the dress. It's not all bad. I think the black and white color combination is totally on trend and the mix between the large and small scale prints is genius! I particularly love the bustier print. I can see that in tops, sweaters, skirts, pants...just about everything. But the peplum around the waist is where this dress loses me. It's too much and overwhelms the dress and overwhelms Gyllenhaal. I think it's the knit that makes it too heavy. Maybe if this dress was in a different fabric it would be a different story. Sorry I don't like it on you Maggie, but it's not you. Its the dress!
