About the Author

Dorothy Hartnett was born in Tasmania where she began her varied, adventurous career. Her first job was designing houses in an architectâ€s office as she had experience as a tiny offsider to her builder father from a quite young age. She ventured from modeling to veterinary nurse to private secretary and P.R. situations to several successful commercial business ventures. Later as a sole parent, she travelled widely introducing her young family to other cultures in the world. During the years 1976-1980, she studied at Seven Hills College of Art and discovered sculpture. After obtaining her Arts Degree she taught Art and English in secondary private schools in Queensland for 8 years and had many solo exhibitions in painting and sculpture. Hartnett progressed from wood, stone and bronze to glass sculpture and in 1989 worked at her own commercial Art glass "Pangeza Studio" where she created unusual glassworks and large commissions. In 1994, Hartnettâ€s first book, The Blossoms of Rose Cottage was published, followed by Forms Entwined, the life story of sculptors Kathleen & Leonard Shillam in 1996. In 1999, Hartnett bought a video camera and she has been making short films from her stories and travel documentaries ever since. A few can be viewed on her YouTube site.
