Castillo Theatre Ends Run of THE GRAPES OF WRATH, 3/21
The Castillo Theatre will end its run of The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck, a co-production of City Lights Youth Theatre and Youth Onstage, on March 21st.
The story of the Joad family's forced eviction from their Oklahoma farm to become migrant laborers during the Great Depression is told through this Tony Award-winning adaptation by Frank Galati.
Performers from Youth Onstage! And the City Lights Youth Theatre come together under the direction of Robert McIntosh, artistic director of City Lights, to create an ambitious theatrical production and engage an iconic American novel, John Steinbeck's The Grapes of Wrath, a masterpiece about injustice and the dignity, decency and common struggles of ordinary people.
Embarking on its 26th season, the Castillo Theatre brings experimental political theatre, dealing with contemporary and historical social issues, to the heart of New York's commercial theatre district.
A showplace for the plays of Fred Newman and Heiner Müller, a multicultural home for Black theatre, and a hotbed of theatrical improvisation, Castillo includes people of all ages and backgrounds in its creative life - from raising and contributing money to being part of the house staff to performing on stage. Castillo works and plays side-by-side with the developmental youth programs of the All Stars Project, which bring theatre to the whole city (and then some!).
