CHILD OF HUNGRY TIMES will get its New York premiere during the Planet Connections Theatre Festivity, running June 11th-28th at 440 Studios. CHILD OF HUNGRY TIMES is a one woman show written and performed by Bridget Bailey, and is based on the writings of one of Russia's most prolific and dangerous writers, Ludmila Petrushevskaya, who was heavily censored during the Soviet Union era. Jay O'Berski is serving as director for the production, and New York Theatre Barn is presenting the work at the Planet Connections Festivity.

The solo performance reveals and revels in the lives of six women through the humor and heartache of living under the Soviet regime, and in the play Bailey inhabits these unique characters (some drawn from Petrushevskaya's own works). Petrushevskaya's works were only recently made available to the public, and she has since become one of the most well known and cutting edge female playwrights in all of Russia.

CHILD OF HUNGRY TIMES began as Bridget Bailey's senior thesis project at Duke University. After being performed at Duke, Bailey received a grant to bring the show to Seattle, where it ran at the Washington Ensemble Theatre and was chosen as an "Editor's Pick" in Seattle Weekly. After the Seattle run, Bailey brought the show to Russia, where it was workshopped for a third time at the Lisov Lab Company in Moscow. Ludmila Petrushevskaya herself attended a performance and met with Bailey afterwards.

The Planet Connections Festival is NYC's first eco-friendly theatre festival where every show involved has chosen a specific charity to partner with that their productions will benefit. CHILD OF HUNGRY TIMES has chosen to partner with Broadway Care/Equity Fights AIDS. In addition to partnering with BC/EFA, the production will work to make it as "green" as possible, using found props, sets, and costumes and printing all programs on recycled paper.

CHILD OF HUNGRY TIMES will run at the White Box Theatre at 440 Studios (at 440 Lafayette Street). It will play the following performance schedule: Thursday, 6/11 at 4:30pm, Saturday 6/13 at 3pm, Wednesday 6/17 at 6pm, Saturday 6/20 at 3pm, Sunday 6/21 at 1pm, and Saturday 6/27 at 7pm. Tickets are $18.
