Stage and screen actor Michael McCarty, 68, died on Friday of heart failure after collapsing and becoming unconscious a few days earlier. The original Broadway cast member of AMADEUS was set to appear in a Santa Barbara production of the show in October.

McCarty was a seasoned Broadway actor, having appeared in 11 productions, both musical and non-musical, across 30 years. His extensive credits included the 1984 revival of OLIVER! (with Patti LuPone), BIG RIVER (1985), the 1989 revival of SWEENEY TODD (with Beth Fowler), and the 2002 revival of OKLAHOMA! (with Patrick Wilson, Andrea Martin, and Schuler Hensley).

He also appeared in many films and television shows, including ER, Crossing Jordan, Dudley Do-Right, among others. Additionally, he was in over 200 commercials.

McCarty is survived by his ex-wife, who went to Santa Barbara to be with him.
