Following its well-received premiere at The Old Vic in London, GROUNDHOG DAY will open at Broadway's August Wilson Theatre (245 West 52nd Street) this spring.

Previews will begin in March (date tbd) with the official opening night set for Monday, April 17, 2017.

GROUNDHOG DAY is produced by Matthew Warchus and André Ptaszynski for Whistle Pig, and Lia Vollack for Columbia Live Stage.

Director Matthew Warchus, composer and lyricist Tim Minchin, choreographer Peter Darling and set and costume designer Rob Howell, four of the creators of the international sensation Matilda The Musical, have joined forces with writer Danny Rubin to collaborate on this new stage musical of the hit 1993 film based on Rubin's story.

Broadway casting will be announced at a later date.

Tickets will go on pre-sale through Ticketmaster starting October 12 with general on-sale starting on October 26.

GROUNDHOG DAY is the story of Phil Connors, a cynical Pittsburgh TV weatherman who is sent to cover the annual Groundhog Day event in Punxsutawney, PA, when he finds himself caught in a time loop, forced to repeat the same day again and again...and again. As each day plays out exactly the same as before Phil becomes increasingly despondent, but is there a lesson to be learned through his experiences, will he ever unlock the secret and break the cycle?
