Thrill Me by Stephen Dolginoff premiered in 2003 at the Midtown International Theatre Festival in New York City. It's a chilling musical retelling of the infamous story of Leopold and Loeb.

Thrill Me examines the lives of Nathan Leopold and Richard Loeb, who committed one of the most infamous and heinous crimes of the 20th Century.

Set in Chicago, 1924, it chronicles the events that lead Nathan Leopold and Richard Loeb to commit and unthinkable crime - the murder of a young boy. Stephen Dolginoff's dark score propels the action and underscores the tension at the center of the plot.

The Emerging Stages program at Stoneham Theatre was founded in 2001 as an effort to assist emerging artists in the development of new work and to offer audiences of Greater Boston more opportunities to experience new or unfamiliar scripts. Memorable past productions include the World Premiere of Marathon adapted by Israel Horovitz, a compelling Italian play in which two actors run onstage for the entire length of the show, and The Girl in the Frame, a contemporary musical comedy by Jeremy Desmon that is one of only eight shows selected to appear this month in the 16th-Annual Festival of New Musicals with the National Alliance for Musical Theatre.

During the first half of 2005, two new productions will be staged as part of the Emerging Stages series: Thrill Me, The Leopold and Loeb Story, with book, music, and lyrics by Stephen Dolginoff and Never Swim Alone by Daniel MacIvor.

Thrill Me, which was first staged during the Fourth Annual Midtown Theatre Festival in New York, is a chilling musical retelling of the infamous story of Leopold and Loeb. Set in Chicago, 1924, it chronicles the events that lead Nathan Leopold and Richard Loeb to commit an unthinkable crime – the murder of a young boy. Dolginoff's dark score propels the action and underscores the tension at the center of the story.

Never Swim Alone, by Canadian playwright Daniel MacIvor, was presented at the New York Fringe Festival in 1999. On the script's back cover, it says "Never Swim Alone is a competition" – an apt description for a play that's reminiscent of past Emerging Stages premiere Marathon, both in its athletic theme and its masculinity.

Thrill Me is directed by Caitlin Lowans and will be presented January 20-28, 2005. Performances are scheduled on Thursdays at 7:30pm, Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm (no performance January 29), and Sundays at 2pm. Tickets for either production are $25/Adults; $20/Seniors (62+); and $10/Students (under 18 or with a valid college I.D.) Series tickets including both Emerging Stages productions are available at a reduced price: $40/Adults, $30/Seniors, and $15/Students.
