BILL W. AND DR. BOB by Samuel Shem and Janet Surrey is the next production of Open Stage of Harrisburg's 29th season. It is also the premiere production of the play in the area.
The play tells the story of Bill Wilson and Dr. Bob Smith, co-founders of Alcoholics Anonymous. The AA program has been attributed with saving the lives of millions of suffering alcoholics and addicts since its inception in the early 1930s and the play tells of the unlikely meeting of these two men and the movement that came about of that - as well as the inception of the program Al-Anon for the family. Critics have called the show "Eye-opening, entertaining, engrossing, touching" and actor Martin Sheen said of the Off-Broadway production: "...miraculous story, beautifully told, of the men who named the disease and created the cure." The production features Kevin Strawser and Jeff Wasileski as the title characters, with Kelli Kauterman and Karen Ruch as their wives. David Ramon Zayas and Terri Mastrobuono round out the cast. The set is designed by Ian Potter and the costumes by Gwen Alsedek. BILL W. AND DR. BOB is directed by Open Stage Founder and Executive Artistic Director Donald L. ALsedek.Videos
