The Art Students League of New York has been one of America's premier studio art schools for 138 years. Continuing that tradition, LINEA examinesfor artists and art appreciators alikethe methods and thinking involved in making art and showcases the results in beautiful reproductions. According to League Executive Director Ira Goldberg, "LINEA online opens the doors to artists' studios and artists' minds. The whole world can now access the creative processes that have inspired and nurtured artists at the Art Students League of New York."

Or as painter Knox Martin puts it on a new LINEA video, "Art is the continued creation of the world."

From 1997 through 2012, LINEA delivered art, interviews and commentary as a controlled-circulation semi-annual journal for League members, colleges, and the New York art community. Moving LINEA online, says Mr. Goldberg, "supports more space for articles and artwork, more timely updates, multimedia capabilities and above all, a wider audience to join the intellectual community at the League's home on 57th Street in Manhattan."

LINEA online is edited by Stephanie Cassidy, who founded the publication in 1997 with Mr. Goldberg. The name LINEA comes from the League's motto, Nulla dies sine linea (No day without a line), an homage to artistic diligence attributed to the ancient Greek painter Apelles by the Roman historian Pliny the Elder.

Insights into artists' thinking that are currently available on LINEA include:

"The Studio Project," a series of insider views into artists' workspaces throughout the city and in Maryland and New Mexico. http://www.asllinea.org/?s=the+studio+project
