Angela Lansbury to Return to the Stage March 10-12 in LA, Additional Dates Possible

Variety reports that Tony-winner Angela Lansbury will make a brief return to the stage in a limited, 3 day enagement of "Oscar and the Pink Lady." The show will run from March 10-12 in Los Angeles, during which Variety reports the star will be testing the waters for additional stagework and/or a film version of the piece.

Over a million copies of Oscar and the Pink Lady, written by Eric-Emmanuel Schmitt have been sold. In Oscar and the Pink Lady, the narrator is a 10-year-old who lives in a hospital. Oscar's parents are unable to deal with his dying and have disconnected emotionally and physically. Granny Rose, his a caregiving visitor doesn't beat around the bush however, and becomes a "guardian angel" to the dying boy. She takes him on a fictional journey through the rest of his life, as his condition continues to get worse.

Lansbury, who originated the role of Mrs. Lovett in Sondheim's Sweeney Todd also garnered Tony Awards for her performances in Mame, Dear World and Gypsy. She had previously collaborated with Sondheim for 1964's Anyone Can Whistle. Other Broadway appearances include Hotel Paradiso, A Taste of Honey, The King and I, a 1983 revival of Mame, and A Little Family Business. A long-time film star, her screen credits include National Velvet, The Harvey Girls, The Court Jester, The Dark at the Top of the Stairs, The World of Henry Orient, Bedknobs and Broomsticks, and The Pirates of Penzance; she received Oscar nods for her performances in Gaslight, The Picture of Dorian Gray and The Manchurian Candidate. Lansbury starred in the title role of Jerry Herman's telemusical Mrs. Santa Clause, but is best known to TV audiences for her role as detective Jessica Fletcher on "Murder, She Wrote."
