On Wednesday May 30, 2012 at 8:00 PM, Oakland, California-based singer, composer and electronic music artist Amy X Neuburg (www.amyxneuburg.com) plays her debut performance at The Stone (www.thestonenyc.com), located at the corner of Avenue C and East 2nd Street, New York. Tickets are $10 at the door.

Selected by this month's curator at The Stone, Gyan Riley, Amy X Neuburg will introduce new works and spatially enhanced versions of older works in this solo concert at The Stone. Using an electronic drumset as her control surface, Amy triggers live recording and overdubbing, percussion, samples, synth sounds and vocal processing, all by touching or hitting the drum pads. Newly designed software allows her to create multiple streams of looped sound, each with its own place in the stereo field, and to manipulate those loops in surprising ways. Come hear Amy's recent sonic-art explorations as well as many of her intricate, tragi-comic 'avant-cabaret' classics.

A fixture of the San Francisco area new music scene and frequent visitor to New York, this is Amy’s first appearance at The Stone.

"Neuburg occupies a musical space unique to her, somewhere between rock, pop, minimalism, opera, techno and musical comedy, and she might touch on all these genres in the space of 32 bars. A genius with live electronics, she creates wonderlands of looped sound... and I’ve never heard a more versatile vocal instrument... An irresistible sweetness of character emanates from this composer-performer." --TOM STRINI, Third Coast Digest, June 2011

AMY X NEUBURG has been developing her own brand of irreverently genre-crossing works for voice, electronics and chamber ensembles for over 25 years, known best for her innovative use of live looping technology, her wide vocal range and her colorful lyrics. As soloist she has performed her “avant-cabaret” songs at Other Minds, Bang on a Can, the Berlin International Poetry Festival, the Wellington and Christchurch Jazz Festivals (NZ), the Warsaw Philharmonic, clubs, concert halls and electronic music festivals throughout the U.S. and abroad. With her Cello ChiXtet she's been presented by Yerba Buena Center, the SF Symphony After Hours, and the LA Philharmonic Left Coast Festival. Commissions include works for Del Sol String Quartet, Pacific Mozart Ensemble chorus, Christchurch Arts Centre chorus, Robin Cox Ensemble, Present Music, Solstice vocal ensemble, Sqwonk, and numerous dancers and media artists. As vocalist she toured Europe and Japan with three Robert Ashley operas and has premiered many contemporary vocal works. Amy studied at Oberlin and the Mills CCM. Among her many grants and honors she is a recent recipient of the Alpert/Ucross prize.
