Growing for the 2nd straight week (9.174 million and 2.479 million, respectively, on w/o 1/20/14) in both Total Viewers (+2%) and Adults 25-54 (+9%), "World News" scored its strongest news demo performance in 3 years - since w/o 1/31/11.
For the 4th time in the last 5 weeks, "World News" posted year-to-year increases in both Total Viewers (+8%) and Adults 25-54 (+21%) - 8.668 million and 2.242 million, respectively, on w/o 1/28/13. In fact, "World News" is up the most year to year in Adults 25-54 compared to "CBS Evening News" (+15%) and "NBC Nightly News" (+11%).
"World News" ranked No. 1 twice during the course of the week for the 2nd consecutive week in Adults 25-54, leading "NBC Nightly News" on Monday by +31,000 demo viewers (3.107 million vs. 3.076 million on 1/27/14) and on Wednesday by +59,000 demo viewers (2.990 million vs. 2.931 million on 1/29/14). Further, "World News" aired the week's No. 1 Adults 25-54 telecast with its Monday airing.
In addition, "World News" delivered its Top 3 Adults 25-54 telecast of the season on Monday (3.107 million), Wednesday (2.990 million) and Tuesday (2.914 million), respectively. In fact, "World News" Monday airing was its top single-day news demo telecast in 3 years - since 2/1/11.
"World News" slashed its Adults 25-54 margin with "NBC Nightly News" year to year by more than half (-62% - 118,000 vs. 310,000). In fact, "World News" has cut its news demo gap with "NBC Nightly News" from the year-earlier week by double-digits for the last 6 weeks.
Season to date, "World News" is up versus the same point last season in both Total Viewers (+3%) and Adults 25-54 (+2%), delivering its most-watched season in 5 years - since the 2008-09 season. "World News" also stands as the only evening newscast to improve its demo performance from the previous season compared to "CBS Evening News" (-7%) and "NBC Nightly News" (-3%).
In addition, "World News" is narrowing its season margin with "NBC Nightly News" in Adults 25-54 by double digits (-28% - 255,000 vs. 356,000) compared to its season margin from the same point last year. In fact, "World News" is posting its smallest news demo margin with the
NBC program in 5 years - since the 2008-09 season.
"World News" has nearly doubled its Adults 25-54 lead over "CBS Evening News" versus its year-ago season lead (+93% - 340,000 vs. 176,000).
For the week, "ABC World News" beat the "CBS Evening News" by 1.043 million Total Viewers and by 407,000 Adults 25-54.
