The ABC Owned Television Stations Digital Group has rolled out an innovative new Weather App for its eight stations, it was announced today by Carla Carpenter, Senior Vice President, Digital Media, ABC Owned Television Stations Group.

Customized to each market, the Weather App has special features for each of ABC's eight owned TV stations. Those include WABC-TV, New York (AccuTrack WABC NY AccuWeather); KABC-TV, Los Angeles (MEGADOPPLER - ABC7 LA Weather); WLS-TV, Chicago (ABC7 Chicago Weather); WPVI-TV, Philadelphia (6abc StormTracker); KGO-TV, San Francisco (ABC7 Weather: SF/Bay Area), KTRK-TV, Houston (ABC13 Houston Weather), WTVD-TV, Raleigh-Durham (ABC11 First Alert Doppler XP) and KFSN-TV, Fresno (ABC30 StormWarn). The app is available free for both iOS and Android (2.3.3 and up) devices on the App Store and in Google Play.

The new Weather App features more than the usual weather notifications, offering voice alerts that warn users of severe weather. This innovative app also has a "follow me anywhere" setting that allows users to get the latest radar and weather information wherever they travel. In addition it allows users to select three static locations for free, displays temperature, animated radar and weather alerts, and very simple one-step social sharing.

"The Weather App continues our tradition of using technology to help our millions of viewers, who depend on ABC's top-rated stations for critical information," said Carpenter. "Not only does this app alert users to inclement weather wherever they are, but it allows users to get the latest information, alerts and a live look at the weather their friends and family are facing across the country. And when our stations are broadcasting news or severe weather information, app users can see it live on their smartphones."

Over the past several years Disney/ABC Television Group's Digital Media teams have consistently launched innovative apps for its stations and network on Android, iPad, iPhone and iPod touch devices, most recently with its WATCH ABC product. Its industry-defining ABC Player App -- which makes free, ad supported full episodes of ABC's daytime and Primetime programming available to viewers the day after it airs - surpassed more than 100 million video views and over 5 million downloads on iPad, iPhone and iPod touch, making it the sixth most downloaded iPad app of all time. Other notable apps include the popular ABC OTV station alarm clock apps, the critically-acclaimed ABC News App for iPad, the Emmy Award-winning official Oscars App, which provided unique backstage viewing experiences for the 83rd and 84th Academy Awards, the popular Radio Disney app and the recently launched ABC Family Player app, which also delivers free, ad supported full episodes.
