Olivia Sombers is a talented 17-year-old. She is an aspiring singer/musician and wants to follow her dreams. Her crazy, abusive father has moved the two of them around most of England because he does not want anyone to notice the abuse. Everything changes, however, when they move to Jacksonville, Florida. Olivia meets Tyler Fields, and together, they uncover secrets about her dark past. When the two fall in love, the adventures continue. As Olivia strives to follow her dreams of being a singer, her past haunts her at the worst moments. Can Olivia follow her dreams despite her dark past?

"A Long Way to Go" by Brittany Watson, Blaze Earl and Nikta Sadati is very relevant in today's society because it tackles social issues that teens can relate to. Issues such as bullying, body image, self-worth, celebrities with eating disorders as well as the ups and downs of relationships are all addressed in the story. This book also shows that whilst teens may find themselves trapped in a situation similar to Olivia's, they can chose their own environment and surround themselves with loving, caring and positive people. Bullying in schools is also trending and the story shows how school authorities can deal creatively with the issue.

Excerpt from "A Long Way to Go":

"Ouch!" I screeched in pain. I didn't break anything it was my bruises that were hurt. I looked up to a bunch of girls and guys full of laughter and May with her phone in her hand recording it. I shook my head and closed my eyes trying to figure out if this was actually happening. Then my eyes opened, and it was real. I then saw everyone's mouth shut and someone getting hold of my arm. "Don't touch me!" I hissed. Then I noticed who it was.

The authors hope that through this book, readers will learn how to follow their dreams and not be afraid of failures and hurts. Liv's life can be a great testament of how one can survive the struggles of life and come out victorious and successful in the end.

About the Author
Brittany Watson, 16, Blaze Earl, 14, and Nikta Sadati, 16, are teenagers with a passion for writing. "A Long Way to Go" started out as a fun idea that Watson and Earl had. They wrote from two different computers and countries - one in Canada, the other in England - on a website's club discussion. About 45 chapters in, Earl could not write as frequently because of school and the time difference. Watson continued to write alone on a writing website called Wattpad. Another 20 chapters later, Watson decided to ask one of her best friends, Sadati, to help write, and together they proceeded to dig further into the world of Liv Sombers. When the ending drew near, Watson and Sadati asked Earl to come back and help complete the epilogue with them. The three put their minds together to end what they hope will be only the beginning of their writing careers.
